Mojo Contents Page Analysis

October 2017 Contents Page:
The colours used on this contents page are red and white, with a main image as the background. These colours will attract the target audience, because they contrast with some of the main image, which is the background. Also, they are the same sort of colours that are on the cover of the magazine.
The main image is used in the background and it is a medium close up. On the left side of the page, the contents of the magazine are shown in a white box. There is also some information about the cover story and a quote, to attract the audience. The writing is quite simple, because it only need to be short, because it would bore the audience, so it isn't too sofisticated and boring.

BBC Radio One Live Lounge Case Study

James Arthur Covering "How To Save A Life" by The Fray

How does non-diegetic sound in the live lounge case study represent the target audience?
Non-diegetic sound is used in James Arthurs Live Lounge cover of The Frays "How to save a life" represents the target audience, because it is new, popular artists covering another artists song, so the target audience are young people, who would like the new artists, but an older audience may like some older songs that are being covered. Also, the audience will be attracted to it, because the artists performing change the way the song sounds, to make it seem more like their own style.

Key:
Laura Mulveys Theory (Women used as erotic objects)
Gauntlets Theory (Men are alpha males)
Mackillons Theory (Men used  as sexual objects)
Stanley Halls Theory (Teenagers are depressed/criminals)
Dick Hebdiges Theory (Teenagers are fun and happy)
Richard Putschs Theory (men are incompetent, dumb buffoons)
How To Save A Life:
Step one, you say we need to talk
He walks, you say sit down, it's just a talk
He smiles politely back at you
You stare politely right on through
Some sort of window to your right
As he goes left, and you stay right
Between the lines of fear and blame
You begin to wonder why you came
Where did I go wrong?
I lost a friend

Somewhere along in the bitterness
And I would have stayed up with you all night
Had I known how to save a life
Let him know that you know best
Cause after all, you do know best
Try to slip past his defense
Without granting innocence
Lay down a list of what is wrong
The things you've told him all along
And pray to God he hears you
And I pray to God he hears you
Where did I go wrong?
I lost a friend

Somewhere along in the bitterness
And I would have stayed up with you all night
Had I known how to save a life
As he begins to raise his voice
You lower yours and grant him one last choice
Drive until you lose the road
Or break with the ones you've followed
He will do one of two things
He will admit to everything
Or he'll say he's just not the same
And you'll begin to wonder why you came
Where did I go wrong?
I lost a friend

Somewhere along in the bitterness
And I would have stayed up with you all night
Had I known how to save a life
Where did I go wrong?
I lost a friend

Somewhere along in the bitterness
And I would have stayed up with you all night
Had I known how to save a life
How to save a life
How to save a life
Where did I go wrong?
I lost a friend

Somewhere along in the bitterness
And I would have stayed up with you all night
Had I known how to save a life
Where did I go wrong?
I lost a friend

Somewhere along in the bitterness
And I would have stayed up with you all night
Had I known how to save a life
How to save a life

Regional/National Identity Representation

Theorist Andrew Higson (1998) writes; "Identity is generally understood to be the shared identity of naturalised inhabitants of particular political-geographic space- this can be a particular nation or region."

One classic example in British Music Magazines of connoting it is a magazine for British readers is using the Union Jack Flag and colours.

Social Grade Representation

Richard Putsch (1992) says working class males in the media are presented as ; "Incompetent and ineffectual, often a buffoon, well-intentioned but dumb. In almost all working-class series, the male is flawed, some more than others.

Keith Gandal's, in 2002 he said that target audiences are drawn in by the; "Sentimental rags-to-riches story,"

Old Age/Disability Representation

Evans (1998),drawing on the works of Freud and other psychoanalysis, states: "Disable people are seen as childish, dependant and underdeveloped and are reading as 'other' and are punished by being excluded from ordinary life. Thus popular images and rhetoric of disabled people abound which comfort us with people who are imperfect, helpless, disgusting, dribbling- a threat to rigid ego boundaries."
